Aurora Aksnes earliest musical memory was of discovering a piano in her attic and becoming enthralled by the music it could produce. Her parents May-Britt and Jan Oystein Aksnes encouraged her to take up music not as a profession or a pastime, but for growth. For this reason she wrote her first songs that were her own creations. Her sources include noted authors Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan in addition to her love for Bjork's style. Her mom encouraged her to play her songs in public, not to be famous, but in order to show others the importance of their work and what they can do for humanity. The piano was her first instrument at age six and writing music at age nine. It was not until she turned 14 that she revealed her plans to her parents. There was no way she could have imagined to become Aurora. She claims that she enjoys creating music. According to her, she believes music can make people feel more relaxed.
